59 PM Pacific Position Details Under direction, supervise and participate in the grounds and custodial activities of an assigned middle and adult/alternative education school or district level site(s) of equivalent size; perform semi-skilled and skilled grounds maintenance and custodial work as part of the grounds and custodial maintenance services for the District; train, supervise and evaluate assigned personnel.
DISTINGUISING CHARACTERISTICS:
Positions in this class are distinguished from the Plant Manager I and Plant Manager III classification by location of the position.
Plant Manager I's are assigned to elementary schools and Plant Manger III are assigned to high schools.
Essential Functions - Typical Duties Supervise and participate in the grounds and custodial activities of assigned school plant; confer with supervisor and others to assess and determine needs and plan for facilities and grounds maintenance.
Train, supervise and evaluate assigned personnel; schedule and monitor work hours; review work completed to assure health and safety standards are met; recommend reassignment and enforce and administer disciplinary actions according to established guidelines and procedures.
Clean and sweep buildings and grounds; maintain facilities in a clean and safe condition; pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings; wash windows and walls, clean venetian blinds; empty and clean trash receptacles and shampoo carpets.
Clean restrooms; wash floors, disinfect fixtures, polish mirrors, and fill dispensers.
Disinfect and clean water fountains.
Clean and polish furniture, woodwork and metal surfaces.
Remove graffiti as needed.
Plant and cultivate trees, grass, shrubs, hedges and flowers.
Prune hedges and trees; weed lawns and gardens; mow lawns; water lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges and flowers.
Fertilize lawns and gardens as necessary.
Spray grounds to control plant disease and pests with approval and direction of grounds supervisor appropriately licensed to apply such chemicals; Fertilize lawns and gardens as necessary.
Operate sweepers, floor polishers and other custodial equipment.
Operate light grounds maintenance equipment such as rotary mowers and edgers.
Operate burglar alarms, heating and air conditioning systems, fire alarm and lighting systems.
Make minor repairs to buildings and grounds systems and equipment.
Measure and mix cleaning solutions and fertilizers.
Maintain routine records related to personnel, maintenance requests, inspections and supplies; order supplies according to established guidelines and procedures; prepare reports as directed.
Fertilize lawns and gardens as necessary.
Test, evaluate and recommend new products and equipment.
Assist with plant security by notifying appropriate authorities concerning intruders or other potential threats to security of facilities and grounds or safety of persons Assist with opening and/or closing and securing secure site.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and a combination of two(2) years of custodial work experience AND one(1) year of grounds work experience which included one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and proof of insurance.
